Luke 1:26-33 – December 4th, 2020
Luke 1:26-33…let’s visualize the text…Imagine this with me. Elizabeth is 6 months pregnant. I believe this is only mentioned to give us an idea of the timing. Anyway, God sends Gabriel…you know the angel…to visit a virgin in Nazareth named Mary. She is engaged to Joseph who is from King David’s family. The angel tells her “You are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” Mary wasn’t sure what to think about this. Angel, Gabriel goes on to tell her “she will get pregnant, give birth to a son, and she has to name him Jesus.” This must be freaking Mary out. But Gabriel doesn’t stop there. “He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. One day He will take over the throne that belonged to David. He will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever. His kingdom is going to last forever.” WOW!!!
You know what I like about this encounter. God sends an angel to give guidance//, directions to Mary. She is about to start a very hard journey…being pregnant before married was tough…being mother of Jesus. Enough said. But God cared for her, just likes He cares for you//…to give direction. He may or may not send an angel to you, but He speaks loud and clear through His love letter (Bible) to us. I want to encourage you to spend some time listening to God today.
