Luke 2:15-20 – December 18th, 2020
I think God had something of a soft spot for shepherds. Maybe it was his connection with King David, or how simple of animals sheep are, but sheep and shepherds show up a lot. So imagine, a group of shepherds out in the field and a bunch of angels show up and begin singing and tell them about Jesus. They go to where Jesus is and see the baby and tell everyone about what had happened. And it says that “Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart.”
Every once in a while my phone sends me a picture or video of something that happened 3, 5, or 10 years ago. I could be something that Amy and I did together, or a picture or video of one of my kids when they were little. But it reminds me of the time something significant happened.
I could imagine that this is what Mary did for Jesus. She had little memories of significant things that happened, things he said, moments when the promise became a bit more real.
And I hope that you have these moments also. Significant moments where Jesus becomes a bit more. I hope you have those moments when God’s promises become a bit more true. Because those moments, are the moments when our faith grows.
